Explore the phenomenon of green (i.e. smelling of cut grass or leaves) in perfume and how perfumers go about instilling it in a formula.
There are straightforward materials (natural and synthetic) which smell green and mostly green such as the galbanum resin and synthetic molecules (calone, helional, etc. which can become green grass, cucumber or melon in a formula). Then there are materials which have a potent green nuance such as linden, fig tree leaves, green tea, etc. Finally, there are some woody notes such as iris, frankincense, vetiver, camphot or neroli which can reveal their green streak should the perfumer fancy.
