Vetiver Santal is a novel fresh sandalwood (coming from an archipelago at the edge of the world), dry vetiver from Haiti and a spark of benzoin from Siam.

Marie Jeanne is a new perfume house from Grasse, founded by a young perfumer from a family connected to Robertet for several generations.

Robertet is a bit like De Beers of the fine natural perfume materials - matières premières, for decades they have been dealing with the finest, purest and most precious stuff a perfumer can dream of.

In Vetiver Santal you can admire and enjoy aromas of a rare variety of sandalwood from New Caledonia, vetiver from Haiti, patchouli from Indonesia and benzoin from Siam among other exquisite materials.

Inspired by the traditional Provençal sweet Calisson, an almond-shaped paste of candied fruit topped with fondant icing. This edp launches with bergamot and sugary milk. Fresh orange blossom radiates from the heart, supported by a warm and creamy sandalwood. Base notes of caramel, vanilla and musk complete the mouth-watering effect.

The spirited country girl arrives in the bustle of the city, determined to change her status to “anything but innocent”. That’s Sweet Lure, bubbling with naughty possibilities. Cinnamon and lily-of-the-valley swirl in a bamboozling haze of neroli and vanilla, keeping things alluring but fun.

Succumb to the indulgence of Vanille Crème, a gourmand evoking the richness and tenderness of homemade custard. The bergamot and cream opening recalls the velvety scent of freshly made crème anglaise. The heart reveals vanilla, enhanced by a touch of caramel and buttery notes. In the base, enveloping notes of vanilla, musk, and sugar snuggle with sweetness.

The dream of a luxury summer resort, where the sky is pink and the guests are from outer space. Languages from Earth and beyond blend in an excited babble as waitstaff weave through the cabanas with tropical cocktails and yuzu sorbet. You hold a piece of strange alien fruit up to the blue sun, and suddenly the planet is awash in neon yellow.

The legend of a happy island and eternal youth: there, beyond the north wind, in the perpetual spring, the fresh northerly breeze carries the scent of blossoming flowers searching for the first ray of sun in the morning dew. A vibrant fragrance of the freshest flowers with citrus notes and light fruity touches that opens up in a radiant heart of Lily of the valley, Magnolia, Mimosa and Cyclamen.

This formula is a huge bergamot space heated by a resinous background.

It's a bit like a Greek island in August when the aromas of sweet citruses mix with the green balsamic smell of cypresses and incensy vibes of rockrose Everything gets lifted into the air by the heat reflected from the stony ground. You can almost hear the cicadas in tall dry grass in this perfume.

Ithaka is the first perfume in the Versi trilogy exploring the relationship between poetry and perfumery and how to appreciate it.

It's inspired by the poem Ithaka written by C. P. Cavafy, and first published in 1911.

Ithaka (the poem)

As you set out for Ithaka
hope your road is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
angry Poseidon — don’t be afraid of them:
you’ll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as a rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
wild Poseidon — you won’t encounter them
unless you bring them along inside your soul,
unless your soul sets them up in front of you.

Hope your road is a long one.
May there be many summer mornings when,
with what pleasure, what joy,
you enter harbors you’re seeing for the first time;
may you stop at Phoenician trading stations
to buy fine things,
mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
sensual perfume of every kind —
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
and may you visit many Egyptian cities
to learn and go on learning from their scholars.

Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you’re destined for.
But don’t hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you’re old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you’ve gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to make you rich.

Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey.
Without her you wouldn’t have set out.
She has nothing left to give you now.

And if you find her poor, Ithaka won’t have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
you’ll have understood by then what these Ithakas mean.

A pretty honeyed floral with some ambery background. Magnolias, violets, jasmine, ylang-ylang are all in the bouquet thrown on satin blanket of white musk and Siam benzoin.
