El Caminante, Spanish for “the wanderer”, is a nomadic fragrance that pays tribute to the flâneur’s stroll, the urban pilgrimage in search of self-knowledge. This extrait is an invitation to travel, to seek experiences, thanks to the propulsive cadence of Ceylon black tea and a lightly smoked suede. The experiences along the way include cardamom and saffron, with fruity nuances of dried plum, date and honey. Luxurious iris absolute adds depth, accompanied by vetiver, sandalwood, tonka bean and labdanum.

Moonlight on wet cobblestones. A bottle of white wine in the pocket of a suede coat. White flowers and kissed skin. Cherries and cigarette smoke linger on warm hair. The punks are in charge.

A voluptuous amber built around the formidable floral trio of magnolia, peony and Bulgarian rose. Adding spice to the headiness is nutmeg and cardamom, and the lusciousness is heightened by a custardy vanilla, with a playful wink of tangerine. Tender orange blossom further encourages the decadence. Laetitia features millesimé notes: like in fine wines and liqueurs, these are the extracts obtained from the best years of production.

The bear prowls amongst resinous pine and fir foraging as he goes, his rich damp fur steams against his body heat. Iris and labdanum conjure a free and floral nature whilst fragrant cinnamon and ginger embody the dominating and ruthless presence. Edible honey and sweet vanilla add richness to this oriental, spicy and woody fragrance.

The Riviera. The Mediterranean fills the horizon. You’re driving along a coastal road with the roof down, feeling free. In this extrait, lemon caviar, zesty ginger and icy cardamom puts jut in your strut, while tomato leaf, neroli and black tea summons an aromatic dance. Frankincense and cypriol offer shade in the sunshine.

Or du  Sérail exudes almost gooey intoxicating sweetness of a cigar soaked in rum with hints of candied fruit and honey at the edges.

You can relate to this perfume if you ever discovered that secret cupboard your grandma kept spice, vanilla, honey, cognac, candied oranges and chocolate among other fragrant treasures reserved for festive cake making. When you finally locate it, you just linger at the open door and marvel at the rich, sweet aromas, before checking if there’s anything worth secretly tasting. 

Tobacco, very much present in the formula probably stands for the antic cabinet itself.

"There is a sugared, decadent and festive tone about the start of the scent without a doubt. The feeling that it evokes is of a Victorian Christmas celebration; opening a giant box of Christmas sweets and staring at the amassed rows of candied fruit lying in their little compartments, the jewelled colours glinting in the light of the log fire."

PG5.1 Suede Osmanthe is a novel leather. The perfumer mixes some classic leather notes with modern complex synthetic aroma-compounds which smell fantasy-like, familiar yet new. The black tea absolute is mixed with the Suederal molecule, aldehydes and cashmeran and together they create an illusion of the smoky musky osmanthus flower aroma.

"Imagine for a moment that you are four or five years old. Your mother has dropped her faithful suede handbag on the kitchen table and she tells you that there are some sweets inside that she brought home for you. You go over to investigate. Matilde Bonaparte, niece of Napoleon I, was known for her breasts (“le plus beau décolleté”) and her talent as a painter. She also hosted a celebrated 19th-century Parisian salon attended by the greatest artists and writers of her time. This namesake perfume is an olfactory salon of provocative white florals (ylang-ylang, narcissus, jasmine) given tropical succulence with passion fruit and papaya. Mathilde’s heady brightness is softened by iris and sandalwood.

A new project with Bertrand Duchaufour and a landscape artist/photographer Martin Hill.

The same way in which Martin goes to a sight and rearranges what nature left there into an installation, the perfumer rearranged some molecules and materials to put the beauty of a natural material into focus.

Also Martin aims to let his stuctures to be absorbed back into natural chaos. Perfume evaporates into the environment in a similar fashion, beautiful but transient.

In Chypre Shot all the focus is on a classic chypre effect (citrus - tart flower- dark woody background). However, the traditional rose is replaced with peony and for the signature dessert gourmand touch of his, Bertrand throws in a delectable coffee and cardamom combination.

The structure and image which were the conceptual inspiration for the perfume are below. It's a mysterious, rich haze full of the sweet scents of a meadow. There is also a nod to oakmoss (one of the pillars of the chypre architecture).
