Montabaco - Ormonde Jayne - Bloom Perfumery

An ornate tobacco leather with a hint of intoxicating tobacco bloom, as well as fresh leaves.

Montabaco is part of the Four Corners of the Earth collection and represents Latin America, the land where tobacco originated.

The perfumer conjures the original jungle encounters between natives and the sailor-explorers (who were totally oblivious to the magic of tobacco at that point). This is a novel interpretation of a tobacco-themed perfume, invoking lush green shadows full of parrot cries, mysterious blooms, and adventure.

The elixir is also exceptionally concentrated, at 42%. Hence the 'intensivo' in the title.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

This is for close quarters and confident company: a jacket thrown over the shoulders, a room that is warm but not crowded, conversation that lingers. Montabaco projects a smooth, slightly smoky sensuality with enough green lift to stay composed rather than heavy.

How to wear

Best in cool weather or air-conditioned spaces, where its spice, tea and tobacco notes can unfold without becoming dense. Apply sparingly at first; the extrait concentration gives strong presence, and a few sprays are enough to create a refined, long-lasting trail with good diffusion.

Who it’s for

For wearers who like tobacco scents with polish rather than darkness: green-spicy, woody, suede-soft and slightly aromatic. It suits someone drawn to elegant niche fragrances with texture, airiness and a sensual but controlled finish.

The nose

Geza Schoen. Schoen is known for modern, texture-driven compositions that often use transparent woods, musks and abstract accords rather than heavy classical structures. His work helped define a cleaner, more contemporary niche style, and in Montabaco he lends Ormonde Jayne’s tobacco concept a smooth, airy sensuality that keeps the leather-and-leaf theme refined rather than dense. He is especially associated with fragrances that feel architectural and tactile, balancing clarity with depth. In Montabaco, that approach supports the brand’s travel-inspired brief: the tobacco is rendered as a polished, green, slightly salty-woody impression, with the signature Iso E Super-like diffusion giving the scent its spacious, modern trail.

Collaborators

Linda Pilkington, Ormonde Jayne’s founder and creative director, shaped the concept and travel narrative behind the fragrance, drawing on the Four Corners of the Earth idea and her South American inspiration. Geza Schoen translated that brief into the finished formula, giving the tobacco-leather theme its smooth, contemporary structure.

Ormonde Jayne’s story

Ormonde Jayne builds its identity around British craftsmanship, rare materials and a distinctly international imagination. The house favors gender-free compositions with strong character and elegant development, often pairing unusual ingredients with a refined, breathable style rather than heavy ornament.

Montabaco’s concept

Montabaco was created as part of the Four Corners of the Earth collection, a series shaped by Linda Pilkington’s travel memories and global references. Here, Latin America becomes a tobacco landscape of green leaves, suede, wood and spice, with the scent framed as an encounter between lush jungle imagery and the early explorer mythos around tobacco.

Extra info

Montabaco is part of Ormonde Jayne’s Four Corners of the Earth collection and is presented as a Latin America-inspired tobacco fragrance. The Intensivo version is notably concentrated at 42%, which explains its dense, lasting presence despite the scent’s airy structure.
