A shot of fruity mezcal collides with precious cacao absolute for a fragrance that’s fiery and intoxicating. Mezcal Chocolate is shaped by Mathis Molinié, digital tastemaker and head chef at Restaurant Philippe in Rouen. It opens with sparkling lime oil and chili pepper, deepened by olibanum from Somalia and an ultra-rare Rhum extract. The cacao’s creaminess melts into a bed of woods: Virginia cedarwood and cypriol oil from India, adding a dark, earthy glow.

An opening of citric and fizzy lemon combined with bright lime and bergamot, salty and refreshing, just like those Mediterranean summers.

The sharp salty accord lends further depth and keeps the lemon note true throughout the long-lasting dry down; interspersed with the bright combination of musks and patchouli.

THE INSPIRATION

In 1977, the year I was born, Helmut Newton immortalised Charlotte Rampling in a series of photos entitled Venus in Fur. A feline and supersensual woman embodies sexual power: emancipated, she takes possession of her body and asserts her desires. Echoing the sexual revolution and its bohemian patchoulis, the perfumery of the 70s distils a chic eroticism, all in suggestion, where heady white flowers pierced by green, powdery and aldehydic notes anchor the fragrances of this decade in a glamorous sophistication.

THE PERFUME

Dialogue with Venus opens with a white floral accord evoking the luxurious and exacerbated femininity of the 70’s, while its fruity, silky and solar vanilla is treated according to the codes of the House of PIERRE GUILLAUME PARIS. Subtle exotic sprays flow through this floral melody like a wind of freedom, suggesting a mischievous and sexy “je-ne-sais-quoi”, an effortless chic.

An iconoclastic perfume built around the aromatic intensity of oregano, an unexpected raw material that conjures sun-scorched leather. The opening salvo of this extrait is sharp and fresh: lime, cardamom and rosemary. As the oregano emerges, arid and fierce, it’s offset by creamy Australian sandalwood and smoky vetiver, adding tension and depth. The trail then turns darker, denser, with Indonesian patchouli, cistus labdanum and oud wood.

According to ancient religious scriptures, Mary mother of Jesus was informed of her destiny by the Archangel Gabriel when she was about 13 years old. Artists over the centuries have been captivated by the idea of this scene, a startled schoolgirl recoiling in shock from the supernatural being. The lily, symbolizing purity and innocence, is not only a common element of these artworks, but is also the inspiration for this extrait. In principio, Latin for “in the beginning”, is a meditation on the creamy radiance of lily, supported by the down-low sensuality of ylang ylang. Mace, sweeter than nutmeg and softer than incense, lends clarity, while sweet/tart kumquat sharpens the focus.

In Sanskrit, “ankura” refers to the sprouting or budding of a plant. It can also signify the seed of an idea or feeling. This uplifting green chypre teases feelings into play with its sunny opening of lemon, bergamot, mint, and the honeyed spice of helichrysum flower. Oakmoss brings shade and mystery, accompanying an earthy blend of patchouli, sage and soil tincture. At its full bloom, the smoky allure of Prachinburi oud fills the soul, turning Ankura into an enchanted forest.

Astra Infinita is Latin for “endless stars”, and this extrait is a celestial blend of brightness and depth. It opens with a citrus supernova: Sicilian lemon, bitter orange and Calabrian bergamot, softened by the golden ripeness of mango and the narcotic bloom of Reunion ylang-ylang.
Then Siberian birch and Indonesian clove meet black pepper and cedarwood, a core that feels both grounded and otherworldly. The base is slow-burning and eternal: Spanish labdanum, Cambodian oud, Mysore sandalwood and Bourbon vanilla. These stars are not distant. They’re drawn to you.

A smell-good-like-you-feel-good perfume, reminiscent of carefree hangouts with friends powered by “herbal inhalants”. Mainstream is a beautifully modulated cannabis fragrance, its grapefruit and lime kick-off nicely balanced by the long guaiac wood, patchouli and vetiver fadeout.

With Chameleon Zoologist continue the theme of tropical habitats full of heavenly exotic flowers. In this perfume you can experience them as a little creature with independently mobile eyes traveling in the thick lush canopies past plumeria blossom, ylang-ylang and other exotic blooms of the island of Madagascar. There are further fragrant hints as to the geographical location of the plot: accords of sea breeze, coconut, mango as well as the notes of vanilla and vetiver.

So sway on a branch of ylang-ylang with Chameleon while being caressed by a spicy vanilla breeze from the Indian ocean.
