Perfumer: Karine Dubreuil – Sereni
The fourth fragrance in the citrusy section of Bon Parfumeur’s library of perfume themes. This time it’s mandarin gin, juicy and green with a bit of spicy sweet tobacco in the background.
All about this fragrance
Vibe check
The first drink has arrived, the conversation is gathering pace, and there is still daylight on the table. Juniper’s dry bite and juicy mandarin suit that animated, informal register; the tobacco warmth lends a softer undertone as the gathering settles in.
How to wear
Its citrus-green profile lends itself to spring and summer, especially mild rather than sweltering weather. Start with one or two sprays on the neck or forearms for a restrained application. The sparkling citrus and juniper lead into a warmer tobacco-and-tonka backdrop; apply lightly in heat to keep that contrast balanced.
Who it’s for
For those who enjoy aromatic citrus with a dry, botanical edge rather than straightforward fruitiness. It suits a taste for cocktail-inspired scents, gentle spice and tobacco warmth without making sweetness the main event.
Release year
2021
The nose
Karine Dubreuil-Sereni is a Grasse-trained perfumer whose work includes Lanvin Éclat d’Arpège and Gucci Envy Me. Her compositions often balance luminous fruit and floral notes with soft, rounded textures. For 004, she interprets a convivial aperitif through gin-like juniper, juicy citrus and a warmer, gently spicy foundation.
Collaborators
Bon Parfumeur founder Ludovic Bonneton helped shape the creative brief by bringing an illustration of Vincent van Gogh’s Café Terrace in the Evening into the studio. This visual reference gave Dubreuil-Sereni a starting point for translating the atmosphere of a shared aperitif into scent.
Bon Parfumeur’s story
Bon Parfumeur treats perfume as a way to preserve emotions, places and memories. Its French-made collection uses numbered names, color-coded fragrance families and three identifying notes to make exploration approachable. Perfumer-led creativity and an invitation to mix fragrances encourage a wardrobe of scents rather than one fixed signature.
004 Gin Cologne’s concept
004 was conceived around aperitif time with friends on a Parisian terrace, with Van Gogh’s Café Terrace in the Evening serving as a visual reference. Juniper and citrus evoke the sparkling cocktail, while spices, tobacco and softer base materials bring warmth to the composition.
Extra info
Despite the word Cologne in its name, 004 is an eau de parfum. It received bronze in the Genderfree Fragrances category at the Dutch Beauty Award 2022. The Japanese launch material also recommended layering it with Bon Parfumeur 801.
