Emerging from dusty nests, the birds are ready to preen and prance. On a wobbly stage of branches, vivid crests bop to the rhythm of their joyous songs. After a final encore, the flock takes flight. Alighting in a nearby field they share a delightful brunch, buzzing with the thrill of their stunning recital.
Zoologist Cockatiel exudes joy. A sunny burst of yellow acacia offers a friendly welcome. Dots of raspberry and tart rhubarb suggest a hint of mischief, like a pair of rosy cheeks beneath a golden plume. Finally, soft notes of musk and vanilla enfold the vibrant Cockatiel, like downy feathers cushioning the brashness of this cheeky bird.
Zoologist Cockatiel was formerly known as “Powder and Dust”, a perfume created by Sven Pritzkoleit, published under his own brand, SP Parfums. The creative director of the scent was Yana Lysenko. This perfume won the 2019 Arts and Olfaction Awards under the Artisan category. In 2020, Sven closed his perfume business and sold the formula of Powder and Dust to Zoologist to continue its legacy.

The nose
Sven Pritzkoleit is an independent perfumer whose work explores unconventional textures and expressive contrasts, from enveloping powder to assertive animalic effects. His Zoologist creations include Hyrax and Cockatiel. The latter began under his own SP Parfums label as Powder & Dust, pairing an unusually powdery character with tart fruit and woody depth.
Collaborators
Yana Lysenko, also known as Yana Tommelise, provided creative direction for the original Powder & Dust. Working with Sven Pritzkoleit, she shaped the brief for an exceptionally powdery fragrance that would still feel modern, innovative and joyful.
Zoologist’s story
Toronto-based Zoologist translates animals, their habitats and their behavior into distinctive fragrances, allowing different perfumers to interpret each subject with considerable creative freedom. Its compositions can be playful, beautiful or deliberately challenging. Animalic effects are created without natural animal-derived musks, and Cockatiel contains no animal products.
Cockatiel’s concept
Cockatiel began as SP Parfums’ Powder & Dust, created around Yana Lysenko’s vision of joyful, contemporary powder rather than an animal theme. After Pritzkoleit closed his perfume business, Zoologist acquired the formula in 2020 and relaunched it in 2022. Its new identity places the composition among Australian golden wattle blossoms, with tart fruit suggesting rosy cheeks and soft musk and vanilla evoking downy feathers.
Extra info
Its predecessor, Powder & Dust, won the Artisan category at the 2019 Art and Olfaction Awards, before the fragrance joined Zoologist. Cockatiel preserves that independent composition under a new animal-inspired identity, and its animalic character contains no animal-derived ingredients.
