Fathom V Director's Cut - Beaufort - Bloom Perfumery

To commemorate a decade of Fathom V, Beaufort has produced a limited edition ‘Directors Cut’ extrait version of the scent: the ‘big green beast’ retooled in an ultra-strong variant at a 150% higher oil inclusion.

This ‘extended’ version brings to life the more muted aspects of the original, heightening the spices and turning the flower shop plant stems aspect into a fallen forest of green. Incredibly powerful and extremely long-lasting. Each all-black bottle is individually numbered, with the edition running to only 1000 pieces worldwide. Each box contains a hand-signed note of authenticity.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

Imagine coming indoors after walking through rain-flattened coastal undergrowth: crushed leaves remain vivid against salt and dark wood. This is greenery with weight and tension, suited to an unhurried evening when a forceful scent can occupy some space rather than remain a discreet background detail.

How to wear

Start with one spray and assess before adding more; this extrait is presented as exceptionally powerful and long-lasting. Cool weather gives its dense greenery, spices and woody base room to unfold. In warmth or close indoor settings, keep application restrained, as heat may make the composition feel more expansive.

Who it’s for

For lovers of assertive green fragrances, earthy aquatics and salty woods rather than transparent marine freshness. Its appeal lies in the contrast between crushed-stem vitality and a dense, darker base, especially for those who enjoy challenging compositions in concentrated form.

The nose

Julie Marlowe created both the original Fathom V and this anniversary reinterpretation. Her work on Fathom V combines aquatic and earthy effects, rejecting the familiar clean-water impression in favour of dense greenery and a darker sense of depth. Director’s Cut expands that composition, bringing its quieter spicy and forest-like facets forward.

Collaborators

Leo Crabtree shaped the original Fathom V’s creative direction, setting the brief for an aquatic fragrance that challenged clean, neutral interpretations of water. That founding concept provides the framework for Director’s Cut; his documented contribution concerns the original fragrance rather than a separately credited role in the anniversary formula.

Beaufort’s story

BeauFort London uses perfume to explore maritime experience, British history, poetry and natural forces. Named after the wind-force scale, the house favours provocative compositions over universal appeal, with smoke, tar, salt and charred textures forming a distinctive creative vocabulary.

Fathom V Director's Cut’s concept

Created to mark ten years of Fathom V, Director’s Cut expands the original rather than replacing its story. The name draws on the drowning verse in Shakespeare’s The Tempest, while the composition explores the uncertainty beneath seemingly calm water. The anniversary extrait intensifies the spices and transforms the original flower-shop stems into a denser, fallen-forest impression.

Extra info

The edition comprises 1,000 individually numbered, all-black bottles, each supplied with a hand-signed authenticity note. Its stated 150% increase in perfume oil means 2.5 times the original concentration. The original Fathom V—not Director’s Cut—was an Independent-category finalist in the 2017 Art and Olfaction Awards.
