Early morning, October 1175, Calabria
The cool night air dissipates under the sun’s first rays. The ripe citrus in the field has absorbed all the water of the morning dew and the farmers are ready to work on the misty green fields, speckled by the bright yellow of the citron. They leave their woody cabin and take a deep breath…
All about this fragrance
Vibe check
It suits the purposeful quiet of an early start: windows open, sleeves rolled back, the day not yet crowded. Tart citron and leafy green accents bring alertness, while cedar gives the impression a dry, composed edge rather than a sparkling sweetness.
How to wear
Try it in spring and summer, when the contrast between tart citrus, green notes and dry woods feels especially apt. Start with one or two sprays on the neck or forearms; exposed skin lets the citrus register in the air, while a more sheltered application keeps the woody aspect closer.
Who it’s for
For those who prefer citrus with a tart, leafy edge rather than sugary fruit or overt aquatic effects. Its green accents and cedarwood will appeal to wearers who enjoy restrained, botanical compositions with a clear woody foundation.

The nose
Rodrigo Flores-Roux is a Mexican-born perfumer known for vivid citrus compositions, expressive florals and a botanically informed approach to scent. His work includes John Varvatos Artisan and Tom Ford Neroli Portofino. L’Etrog Acqua began as his personal summer fragrance before becoming a greener, tarter interpretation of Arquiste’s original L’Etrog.
Collaborators
Carlos Huber shaped the historical concept and creative direction in collaboration with Rodrigo Flores-Roux. He framed Acqua as the morning after L’Etrog, moving the imagined scene from a warm wooden shelter into wet citron fields, with greater emphasis on citrus, woods and green aromatic elements.
Arquiste’s story
Arquiste treats fragrance as a sensory time capsule. Founded by architectural preservation specialist Carlos Huber, the house translates researched historical places and moments into compositions that evoke their atmosphere, materials and landscapes rather than reproduce antique perfume formulas.
L'Etrog Acqua’s concept
L’Etrog Acqua imagines early morning in Calabria in October 1175, as farmers leave their wooden shelter for dew-covered citron fields. A sequel to L’Etrog’s harvest-celebration narrative, it draws on Jewish citron traditions associated with Sukkot. The original’s dried-fruit character gives way to a greener, more tart composition.
Extra info
Despite the name Acqua, the fragrance launched as an Eau de Parfum, not an Eau de Cologne. Its official product page includes a historical bibliography covering citrus cultivation, medieval travel and Jewish life in southern Italy.
