Emperors they may be, but when a massive cyclone unleashes its merciless austral winds, the colony of penguins bow to its power. It's from such extremes that the male penguin must guard his precious bundle. Passed tenderly from mother to father, the egg is their shared purpose. She embarks on a perilous odyssey to the sea for food. He begins his own monotonous march, packed tightly in a circle of trudging penguins. So intent is he on protecting his egg that even the dazzling aurora australis against a lonely night sky escapes his notice.
Zoologist Penguin opens with saffron caught upon a salty blast of crisp antarctic air. Against the cool desolation, anticipation glimmers as lively aromas of pink pepper and sea moss swirl over musks, suede and sandalwood. Brace yourself for a vibrant scent that Is always invigorating, a reminder of nature’s harsh reality in a welcome blast.

All about this fragrance
Vibe check
A brisk walk beside the waterfront, collar raised, before stepping indoors to join a small gathering. Penguin’s icy marine opening keeps that sense of exposure alive, while suede and sandalwood soften its register at closer quarters: alert and composed, rather than overtly enveloping.
How to wear
Try it in cool or mild weather, when the contrast between icy marine notes and the softer base can feel particularly distinct. Begin with one or two sprays on skin; the extrait concentration warrants a measured application. In warmer conditions, use a lighter dose to keep the pepper, saffron and suede from outweighing the transparent opening.
Who it’s for
For those drawn to marine fragrances without a tropical mood, and to freshness with texture rather than simple citrus brightness. Its combination of imagined ice, sea moss and soft suede will appeal to wearers who enjoy conceptual perfumery but still want a restrained, approachable character.

The nose
Chiaki Nomura composed Penguin, translating its Antarctic setting into contrasts of icy air, marine texture and soft suede. Her use of IFF’s Arctical and Oceanol helps construct the cold-air and seaweed impressions at the heart of the concept.
Zoologist’s story
Founded in Toronto by Victor Wong, Zoologist turns animals’ habitats and behavior into distinctive olfactory narratives, ranging from approachable to deliberately challenging. These are imaginative portraits rather than literal animal smells. The house uses synthetic alternatives to animal-derived musks, and Penguin contains no animal products.
Penguin (Limited Edition)’s concept
Penguin takes its inspiration from emperor-penguin parenthood: a male shelters an egg within a tightly huddled colony while the female journeys to the sea for food. The composition translates this Antarctic scene into imagined frozen air, marine impressions and spice, with suede, musk and sandalwood supplying a softer counterpoint to the exposed landscape.
Extra info
The limited edition is a collector’s presentation of Penguin, not a separately documented formula. Its ice-themed colored bottle was offered as a first-production edition while stocks lasted. Despite the musk and suede notes, the fragrance contains no animal products.
