Pride
A collaboration with Miguel Matos.
A retro fougere infused with petrichor; aromas of narcissus, hay, and sandalwood floating in the warm summer rain.
All about this fragrance
Vibe check
The working day has slowed, and summer rain has just darkened the pavement. Pride suits that shift in tempo: mineral dampness against warm hay and woods, with a leathery, animalic undertone that gives close conversation a more deliberate, self-possessed register.
How to wear
Try it in mild weather or on a cooler summer evening, when the rain-like mineral effect can contrast with its woody warmth. Start with one or two sprays on skin; a restrained application lets the narcissus, earthy patchouli and animalic facets sit closer to the wearer. In heat, begin lightly and assess before adding more.
Who it’s for
For lovers of vintage perfume textures who welcome a contemporary mineral twist. Pride will appeal to those drawn to earthy patchouli, narcissus, leathery woods and animalic detail, rather than sweetness or freshly laundered effects.

2020
The nose
Miguel Matos is a Portuguese perfumer and fragrance writer known for expressive compositions that revisit vintage perfumery through an experimental lens. His work often explores animalic textures, unconventional contrasts and the character of older fragrance styles rather than smoothing away their eccentricities. In Pride, he pairs a classical floral-patchouli structure with Cashmeran and mineral effects.
Collaborators
DER DUFT founder Anselm Skogstad shaped the creative brief around pride as self-confidence rather than arrogance. His discussions with Miguel Matos provided the conceptual starting point; Matos translated it into a meeting of perfume history and contemporary urban materials.
Der Duft’s story
DER DUFT means “The Scent,” reflecting a fragrance-first approach that leaves room for the wearer’s own associations. The house gives perfumers creative freedom rather than asking them to follow trends, favouring individual character and timeless references expressed through modern compositions.
Pride’s concept
Pride grew from discussions between Miguel Matos and Anselm Skogstad that began in 2019. Matos interpreted the brief through his affection for perfume history, building a vintage core of bergamot, narcissus, jasmine and patchouli. Cashmeran and mineral effects brought in the imagery of concrete, buildings and homes, linking personal roots with the built world.
Extra info
Pride and Grasse were the two fragrances announced when DER DUFT opened pre-sales. Despite its rain-soaked imagery, Pride’s modern dimension was conceived partly around concrete, cities and homes.
