Rhinoceros (2020) Version II
Perfumer: Prin Lomros
Please note this 2020 formulation by Prin is a new vision of the Rhinocerous theme and is not a replacement (neither conceptually and nor technically) for the prevous discontinued formulation.
Prin Lomros tells this bold leather story in his favorite witchy herbal incense style with a few nods to the first chapter (the boozy theme of rum and whiskey).
Zoologist's concept for the perfume:
"Under the searing gaze of an unrelenting sun, the ornery rhinoceros surveys his dusty territory. A tough, battered hide is his armour against the erosive onslaught of sand, whipped into a frenzy by a hot, merciless wind, as he stands strong, defending his domain.
On the first spray of Zoologist Rhinoceros, heady notes of sweet rum and whiskey collide with mellow coffee before the scent settles into its lingering journey. Rich leather, oud and incense are carried in a cloud of smoky red tobacco along a dusty amber path, dotted with hints of patchouli and moss. Rhinoceros is a sophisticated and robust scent that makes a bold, unapologetic statement. Go forth and explore your world. Don’t ask permission."
Zoologist Rhinoceros does not use animal products.
All about this fragrance
Vibe check
The register is unhurried and unsmoothed: a worn leather coat draped over a chair, a measure of whisky nearby, conversation that has settled into a slower rhythm. Coffee and spirits give the opening warmth, while smoky tobacco and dusty woods lend the wearer a firm, slightly austere presence.
How to wear
Its dense leather, tobacco and oud profile makes cooler weather a natural starting point. Try one or two sprays on skin beneath clothing, allowing the boozy opening to settle before adding more. In warm conditions, use a lighter dose: the smoky, animalic textures may feel more forceful as skin heats.
Who it’s for
For those drawn to rugged leather, smoky tobacco and oud rather than polished woods or bright freshness. The boozy coffee opening offers a point of entry, but the appeal lies in its herbal incense, dusty texture and unapologetically animalic character.

The nose
Prin Lomros is a Thai independent perfumer behind the houses PRIN, Prissana and Strangers Parfumerie. His work often explores dense woods, incense, herbs and animalic textures, balancing atmospheric storytelling with an appetite for unconventional materials. In Rhinoceros (2020), that approach gives leather a rough, smoky setting, with coffee and spirits opening onto tobacco, oud and dusty woods.
Collaborators
Zoologist founder Victor Wong shaped the creative brief, seeking a rougher interpretation closer to his original vision of the animal. He turned to Prin Lomros after earlier development trials by Christian Carbonnel felt too polished for the intended character; Carbonnel is not credited as a co-author of the released fragrance.
Zoologist’s story
Zoologist translates animals, their habitats and their behavior into imaginative perfumes rather than literal scent replicas. Founded in Toronto by Victor Wong, the house gives independent perfumers room to explore beauty alongside stranger, more challenging textures. Animal-derived musks are replaced with synthetic alternatives, and Rhinoceros contains no animal products.
Rhinoceros (2020) Version II’s concept
Rhinoceros (2020) is a new interpretation of the theme, not a reconstruction of Paul Kiler’s 2014 formula. Its imagery centers on a weathered hide enduring fierce sun, wind and dust. Lomros retains the boozy thread of the earlier fragrance while building a distinct landscape of leather, herbal incense, tobacco and oud.
Extra info
Despite its animalic character, Rhinoceros uses no animal products; its leather note is synthetic. The official heart notes also include flouve, a fragrant grass, alongside tobacco absolute and incense. “Version II” is a retailer designation, while Zoologist names the fragrance Rhinoceros (2020).
