An interpretation of hōjicha ほうじ茶 (roasted green tea), a popular tea in Japan. The scent combines the roasted crispness of brewed tea leaves with the creaminess of steaming milk. Accents of gyokuro (high-grade green tea) and seaweed create a beguiling depth.
All about this fragrance
Vibe check
An unhurried afternoon at a wooden table, with a hot cup close at hand and conversation kept low. Roasted leaves and peanut give Hojicha a quietly savory presence, while milky softness makes it feel welcoming rather than sugary. The seaweed accent keeps that comfort slightly unexpected.
How to wear
Try Hojicha in mild to cool weather, when its roasted, creamy character can feel especially inviting. Start with one or two sprays on skin, leaving room for the mint and seaweed accents alongside the nutty warmth. In warmer conditions, apply lightly so the sweeter facets do not dominate.
Who it’s for
For tea-fragrance enthusiasts who prefer roasted depth to citrus freshness, and gourmand lovers drawn to nutty, milk-like textures without a confectionery focus. Its seaweed and herbal accents will appeal to those who enjoy a savory edge within a comforting composition.

Collaborators
Tetsu Amada, J-Scent’s founder and creative lead, guided the in-house TEAM LUZ behind Hojicha. Its creative starting point was the familiar aroma of a Japanese tea shop; the team translated that roasted-leaf impression into a wearable fragrance. The individual formula author has not been publicly identified.
J-Scent’s story
J-Scent interprets Japanese culture through familiar smells, everyday rituals and remembered scenes. Its guiding idea is to harmonize scents rather than simply mix them, bringing unexpected materials into balanced compositions. Creation and manufacture take place in Japan through LUZ’s own laboratories and factories.
ほうじ茶 Hojicha (Roasted Green Tea)’s concept
Hojicha began with the roasted aroma encountered while passing a Japanese tea shop, a sensory memory associated with calm and nostalgia. The creative challenge was to preserve the recognizable smell of roasting leaves while making it wearable. Creamy milk-like softness and accents of gyokuro and seaweed give the finished fragrance more dimension than a literal dry-tea reconstruction.
Extra info
Hojicha was one of J-Scent’s three launch fragrances, alongside Agarwood and Wasanbon. Its official note pyramid contains no named tea note: the roasted-tea impression is built around an unusual combination that includes coconut, peanut, laver, mint, wintergreen and clover.
