Tears - Comme Des Garcons - Bloom Perfumery

Comme des Garcons and indie fashion brand Denim Tears have created Tears, an eau de parfum composed around the scent of cotton. The fragrance draws on rural Georgia just after the rain, when heat rises off the red clay and the cotton fields sit wet and green. Perfumer Paul Guerlain built the musk floral as a dry composition with a hay-like warmth. The opening pairs green and resinous galbanum and sage, before revealing a grassy, powdery core of daffodil, jasmine, flouve and orris. Vetiver, hay, cypriol and musk lands a dry, earthy finish.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

Tears suits an unhurried afternoon when the ground is still damp but the air has warmed. Its green, savory opening and dry cotton-field softness suggest an understated presence: relaxed clothing, conversation at close quarters, and earthiness rather than polished sweetness.

How to wear

Try it in mild spring weather or the softer warmth of early autumn, when its green opening and dry hay-like base can sit in balance. Start with one or two sprays on skin, allowing the powdery floral heart to settle before adding more; a light application keeps the earthy facets measured.

Who it’s for

For wearers drawn to savory greens, powdery florals and dry, earthy musks rather than sweet bouquets or laundry-style cotton scents. It will appeal especially to those who enjoy conceptual fragrances with a tangible landscape behind them.

The nose

Paul Guerlain composed Tears, translating Tremaine Emory’s memories of rural Georgia into a dry musky floral. The composition moves from resinous greenery through powdery, grassy flowers to an earthy foundation of vetiver, hay, cypriol and musk.

Collaborators

Tremaine Emory, founder of Denim Tears, supplied the creative concept through his memories of summers in Harlem, Georgia, and designed the bottle and box. He worked with Comme des Garçons as the house developed the fragrance to meet his vision.

Comme Des Garcons’s story

Comme des Garçons Parfums treats fragrance as a medium for conceptual experimentation, often looking beyond conventional perfume subjects to unexpected materials and sensations. Tears brings that approach into dialogue with Denim Tears’ exploration of the African diaspora, turning cotton, landscape and personal memory into scent.

Tears’s concept

Tears grew from Tremaine Emory’s memories of summers in Harlem, Georgia: wet cotton fields, morning dew and heat rising from red clay. Rather than interpreting cotton as freshly washed fabric, Paul Guerlain built a dry musky floral around the contrast between damp greenery and hay-like warmth.

Extra info

Tears marks Denim Tears’ first fragrance. Despite the name, its central subject is cotton fields in Georgia, not salty tears. Flouve, a sweet vernal grass, appears in the floral heart alongside daffodil, jasmine and orris.
