A new project with Bertrand Duchaufour and a landscape artist/photographer Martin Hill.

The same way in which Martin goes to a sight and rearranges what nature left there into an installation, the perfumer rearranged some molecules and materials to put the beauty of a natural material into focus.

Also Martin aims to let his stuctures to be absorbed back into natural chaos. Perfume evaporates into the environment in a similar fashion, beautiful but transient.

In Chypre Shot all the focus is on a classic chypre effect (citrus - tart flower- dark woody background). However, the traditional rose is replaced with peony and for the signature dessert gourmand touch of his, Bertrand throws in a delectable coffee and cardamom combination.

The structure and image which were the conceptual inspiration for the perfume are below. It's a mysterious, rich haze full of the sweet scents of a meadow. There is also a nod to oakmoss (one of the pillars of the chypre architecture).

“Shaan” is a Sanskrit name meaning greatness and majesty. The  perfumer intertwines the name with the legend of the Egyptian pharaoh Thutmose, the conquering leader whose final battle was foretold by the oracles. Ember Shaan is a fragrance that shifts and evolves, reflecting the concept of victory intertwined with sorrow. With a variety of ouds and frankincenses, this extrait explores how a bright fire fades into a smouldering ember, while also deepening into something more profound. Coffee, rose and sandalwood combine their rich effects into an olfactory syrup that infuses the woods, while spicy opoponax and stony gunpowder add punctuation and surprise.

All work, all play. Workaholic bends the rules for the ambitious ones who want to smell like the success they are. The powerful appeal of white musk, Australian sandalwood, coffee and amber singles out future Masters of the Universe, whoever and whatever they may be.

Try to resist a rose macaron: that delicately crunchy shell relenting under the force of greedy teeth to reveal a melting heart of foamy sweetness. There’s the interplay of almond, rose and syrupy lychee, triggering an eyes-rolling-back-in-the-head situation. The sensitive and sensuous artist picks up her paintbrush, burning with creativity and beauty. Bright light shines in the studio mirroring the floral and woody scent that surrounds her. Intense and passionate. With peppered lemons, and edible praline giving a sexy edge to the delicate and floral ambery rose.  

From LO’s Parfum Intense collection, this is an amber with the darkness turned up to 11. There’s no white space here, just expensive raw materials piled high. Its vibrant opening with fruity notes is enriched by the bitterness of coffee, deepening into a powerful chorus of rose, iris, jasmine and lily of the valley. And this valley is a deep one, a soft black expanse of leather, nagarmotha and patchouli, cushioned by a dirtier-than-usual amber.

As the sun sinks over the dense tropical forest, civets emerge warily from the thickets. Under a carpet of narcotic flower blossoms, a smattering of coffee berries peppers the ground. The moist air is heavy with mossy aromas that penetrate every crevice, but the musky scent of the civets dominates; their marked territory daring one to enter at one’s own risk.

Civet pays homage to the age-old ingredient, civet, as well as chypre perfumes of bygone days – perfumes that refused to be intimidated by raw, alluring, animalistic musks. Civet is a moody and complex brew entwined in mystery. It opens with a spicy floral accord, threaded through with dark coffee tones. Slowly it prowls forward, unraveling base notes of leather, moss and vanilla that combines with distinctive civet musk to create a bewildering, sophisticated scent with the promise of a sultry nighttime rendezvous.
