Bare - And Fragrance - Bloom Perfumery

Ahhh cedar. Old school floors, air freshener in the downstairs loo with a top note of disinfectant. Yeah right.

This delicious fragrance encapsulates the living heart of the forest with lingering and enigmatic essence of the Great Bear Rainforest®.

With sustainably sourced ingredients from within its bosom that help maintain this breathtaking but threatened environment, its wonderful wildlife and its ancient peoples.

Does it pack a punch? Do bears...?

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

For a brisk afternoon when you come indoors still carrying the atmosphere of the woods. Pine and fir give the scent an alert, outdoors-facing energy; cedar keeps its presence dry and grounded. It suits an unceremonious setting where a substantial woody trail feels more natural than sweetness.

How to wear

Cool to mild weather is a sensible starting point for its forceful woody character. Begin with one spray on the torso and assess before adding more, especially in shared indoor spaces. Warm skin should bring the resinous woods forward; lighter application lets their fresh edge remain the focus.

Who it’s for

For lovers of assertive woods, coniferous freshness and ingredient-led perfumery. Particularly appealing if cedar, pine and fir interest you more than sweet or floral compositions, and you prefer a forest impression to familiar household-cleaner associations.

Release year

2020 (or 2021)

The nose

Simon Constantine, founder of ånd fragrance and former head buyer and perfumer at Lush. His work connects expressive perfumery with a close interest in raw materials and their origins. After helping establish Gorilla Perfumes, he developed ånd around ecological concerns and community-focused sourcing. Båre brings those priorities together through a direct, forest-led composition.

And Fragrance’s story

ånd treats ingredient sourcing as part of perfume’s creative purpose, not merely its supply chain. Hand-formulation, ecosystem protection and solidarity with Indigenous communities underpin the house, whose irreverent slogan, “unstink the world,” rejects conventional luxury solemnity.

Bare’s concept

Båre grew from Simon Constantine’s visit to Canada’s Great Bear Rainforest, where Nuxalk hosts introduced him to Great Bear Rainforest Essential Oils. Creating ånd offered a way to revisit that connection through Douglas fir, Western red cedar and shore pine. The fragrance was conceived to evoke the forest while using ingredient purchases to support its Indigenous custodians.

Extra info

The official name is Båre, complete with ånd’s characteristic ringed vowel. Its listed ingredients distinguish Western red cedar, shore pine and Douglas fir branch and leaf oils rather than relying on a generic “forest woods” accord. Rosewood wood oil is also listed.
