Australian spring arrives, bearing dazzling frocks of yellow blossoms to dress the bare golden wattle trees. Clouds of sweet honeyed fragrance, caught upon the breeze, carry an invitation inland, where a flock of cockatiels happily take up the celebration. Emerging from dusty nests, the birds are ready to preen and prance. On a wobbly stage of branches, vivid crests bop to the rhythm of their joyous songs. After a final encore, the flock takes flight. Alighting in a nearby field they share a delightful brunch, buzzing with the thrill of their stunning recital.
Zoologist Cockatiel exudes joy. A sunny burst of yellow acacia offers a friendly welcome. Dots of raspberry and tart rhubarb suggest a hint of mischief, like a pair of rosy cheeks beneath a golden plume. Finally, soft notes of musk and vanilla enfold the vibrant Cockatiel, like downy feathers cushioning the brashness of this cheeky bird.
Zoologist Cockatiel was formerly known as “Powder and Dust”, a perfume created by Sven Pritzkoleit, published under his own brand, SP Parfums. The creative director of the scent was Yana Lysenko. This perfume won the 2019 Arts and Olfaction Awards under the Artisan category. In 2020, Sven closed his perfume business and sold the formula of Powder and Dust to Zoologist to continue its legacy.

Sven Pritzkoleit is an independent perfumer whose SP Parfums work explored unconventional textures and expressive contrasts. His Powder & Dust pairs exuberant powder with tart fruit and woody warmth rather than treating powder as a purely nostalgic accord. The composition won an Art and Olfaction Award before finding a new home at Zoologist as Cockatiel.
Collaborators
Yana Lysenko, known as Tommelise, served as creative director for the original Powder & Dust. Working with Sven Pritzkoleit, she shaped the brief around an exceptionally powdery fragrance that would feel modern and joyful rather than evoke only vintage cosmetics.
Zoologist’s story
Founded in Toronto by Victor Wong, Zoologist translates animals, their habitats and their behavior into distinctive olfactory portraits. Its fragrances embrace playfulness, unfamiliar textures and occasional provocation rather than a uniform house style. Animal imagery does not imply animal ingredients: the house uses synthetic alternatives to animal-derived musks.
Cockatiel (Special Edition)’s concept
Originally released by SP Parfums as Powder & Dust, this composition began with Yana Lysenko’s vision of exuberant, contemporary powder. Zoologist acquired the formula when Pritzkoleit closed his perfume business, preserving it under a new identity. Cockatiel’s Australian spring narrative recasts its yellow floral brightness, tart fruit and soft finish as golden wattle, rosy cheeks and downy feathers.
Extra info
The Special Edition changes the presentation, not the perfume, and its discontinued packaging does not mean Cockatiel itself has been discontinued. The composition won the 2019 Art and Olfaction Award in the Artisan category under its original name, Powder & Dust. Despite its animal-inspired identity, Cockatiel contains no animal products.
