Rose de Taif - Perris Monte Carlo - Bloom Perfumery

Perfumer: Luca Maffei

The rarest of roses in perfumery: rose from the Taif area in Saudi Arabia. These flowers have their own unique aroma and most of the harvest stays in the country. Very few perfume houses ever get their hands on rose de Taif.

Perris did manage to secure the precious essence for their perfume and it was really worth making rose de Taif the main theme of the formula. Only a few other ingredients are used and used only to highlight the beauty of this rare perfume material.

Once you have tried rose from Taif you will be able to recognize them forever: these roses have a unique sillage, hanging in the air as a veil and they are creamier, more gentle and muskier than most other rose varieties.

Also available in the extrait version.

The EdP option smells less metallic and more happy rose petals warmed by the sun (thank you lemon). Rose de Taif in the extrait concentration is more metallic leathery and heavier on geranium.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

A rose for an unhurried afternoon when conversation draws closer and coats come off. The lemon-lit petals keep the mood open and bright, while the creamy, musky undertone gives the wearer a sensual presence without the weight of a darker rose composition.

How to wear

Start with one or two sprays on the neck or upper chest to let the rose form a soft veil around you. Mild spring weather suits its citrus-lit floral character; in warmer conditions, apply lightly so the creamy rose and musk remain balanced with the brighter opening.

Who it’s for

For rose lovers who want the flower itself to remain recognisable: luminous petals, green geranium accents and a creamy, musky finish. It suits a taste for ingredient-focused florals with sensual softness rather than dense sweetness or a strongly metallic rose effect.

The nose

Luca Maffei is an Italian perfumer associated with Atelier Fragranze Milano, whose work spans independent niche houses and established fragrance brands. His compositions often balance expressive raw materials with a clear, contemporary structure. In Rose de Taif, citrus, spice and geranium frame the rose rather than compete with it.

Collaborators

Gian Luca Perris, the house’s founder and creative director, shaped the ingredient-led concept and sourcing direction. He worked on obtaining Taif rose oil and set a brief for a simple but sophisticated composition that would reveal the material’s character without obscuring it.

Perris Monte Carlo’s story

Perris Monte Carlo places craftsmanship and raw-material quality ahead of outward display. Its approach combines traditional perfumery with modern extraction techniques, while the Black Collection explores precious ingredients, their places of origin and the perfume traditions surrounding them.

Rose de Taif’s concept

Rose de Taif pays tribute to the Damask roses cultivated in the highlands around Taif in Saudi Arabia. The house’s narrative evokes an April visit to the rose-growing hills, linking the oil’s character to local climate, terrain and growers’ expertise. The composition keeps that rose at its centre, using a restrained supporting palette to illuminate its nuances.

Extra info

The Eau de Parfum belongs to the Black Collection. A separate Extrait followed in 2015, with more Taif rose essential oil and Damask rose absolute and a softer opening. It was the Extrait—not this Eau de Parfum—that became a finalist in the Independent category of the 2016 Art and Olfaction Awards.
