In chess, a gambit is a strategic move where a player sacrifices a piece to gain advantage and, eventually, take control of the board. In Rose Gambit, the conventional prettiness of a rose is given up in order to achieve something more ambitious — a fragrance charged with electricity, strong and precise like the ticking of a mechanical clock in a chess game.

A woody rose to checkmate your expectations, deviously played by Stéphanie Bakouche.

‘Rose Gambit, a perfume meant to evoke the legendary chess tournaments of the past, had to be very contrasting. What better contrast could one look for than that of the white and black squares? I didn’t want to classically interpret the white color with aldehydes and went for an almond milk accord instead. Fresh and delicious, its creaminess, slightly disturbed by the presence of a bitter, liquorous chamomile, leads you to a dark rose in the heart of Rose Gambit and keeps on going until the very end — in perfect harmony with the tobacco notes in the drydown. These latter ones include liatrix absolute, a raw material full of coumarin — dry, evocative of hay, tobacco and… almonds. Now, the circle is complete,’ — Stéphanie Bakouche.
