Zagal is the Spanish word for a shepherd’s apprentice, a figure that embodies discovery and innocence. This namesake fragrance invites you to approach the familiar with fresh eyes. Zagal is a dialogue between saffron’s dry, subtle bitterness, and fig’s fleshy, vegetal sweetness. Inspired by St James's Park, a quick promenade away from our Jermyn Street shop, one of London’s oldest Royal Parks, surrounded by some of the country’s most famous landmarks and lush greenery.
Creamy sweet and bitter green aromas encompass the shoreline of the blissful lake towered by an abundance of fig trees, immense in scale with elongated deciduous leaves flaunting their architectural foliage, believed to be the largest in Britain.

Mulberry Fig is a scent that evokes a floral amber fragrance combining the soft powdery character of orris with hints of fruit and spice. The perfume opens with a sparkle of fig and cardamom supported from the heart with fragrant green tones of vetiver and cypress. Amyris, cedarwood and sandalwood emphasise the overall woody character that permeates through the perfume.

I was inspired while visiting Kew Gardens in London in May. Every May there are hundreds of blooming magnolia trees in different sorts, sizes, scents and colours. Usually it is a very rainy season and my inspiration was to create a scent of the water and rain on magnolia trees.  

The symbol of this modern perfume is an American modern dance pioneer Ruth St. Denis. She is not only a very talented performer, but also very feminine.

Her vibrant and spirited art of dance, influenced by the East and South Asia, her divine body move and incredible costumes made Ruth St. Denis a worldwide well known star. Her body projects as Temple of femininity. 

When the dancer emerged from the darkness of the stage, her presence was immediately captivating, the air suddenly fragrant with her appearance. Adorned in jewels from head to toe, radiant in a special gold sari, her hair crowned in jasmine, she is an embodiment of divine feminine, mirroring the images of goddesses of Lakshmi and Saraswati but with the talented Ruth St. Denis touch of modern dance and ballet movement.

From a rich prelude of fresh Galbanum and Cistus notes, with marine undertones and spices, emerges the deep scent of balms, resins and Incense, Labdanum, Myrrh and Frankincense, which herald the enveloping, sensual undertones of Ambergris accompanied by animal notes and aromatic woods.

A high-contrast fragrance: metallic/vegetal, bitter/sweet. Copper opens as a galbanum bomb: the sap of the Persian perennial producing its characteristic grassy bite. Copper elicits strong impressions: from “peas growing in a sun-baked greenhouse” to “a cashmere scarf permeated with cigarette smoke”, with the unifier being “comforting”, due to its soft path to a faded tobacco-vanilla drydown.
