The word “agrani” in Sanskrit means a leader, a trailblazer, and this perfume embodies the life stages of a leader. The opening burst of cherry, almond and saffron symbolises the mesmerising oratory skills that rally the masses. The cacao and castoreum base evokes the lasting impact they have on the world, leaving an indelible impression. A bait-and-switch perfume that starts sharp and clean with juniper and crisp, metallic violet leaves. Then comes the gentle abyss: a faded haze of tobacco, patchouli and leather swirled with white tea and musk. The message might be lost in translation, but all meaning will be found in the fragrance.

Silphium was a plant widely renowned as a spice, medicinal herb and perfume ingredient throughout the empires of classical antiquity, outshining both saffron and cinnamon. It was praised by Greek philosophers and writers, as well as Roman emperors and cookbook authors. The demand for Silphium eventually became so overwhelming that it was harvested to extinction, and the taste and smell of the once greatest spice in the world were lost in time.

This extinct plant was reconstructed by researching assumed relatives of Silphium, using aromachemicals (the molecular building blocks of scents) to create an accord reflecting historical descriptions. This is set against a background of ancient incense, woods and leather.

A gourmand perfume with an exotic twist. The core theme is bitter cocoa dusted with pepper. Even though we think of cocoa and chocolate as amlost the same sweet thing, cocoa powder on its own has more of an ambery, bitter woody and deep aroma rather than sweet chocolate vibes.

Perris took cocoa absolute and and styled it the Aztec way - no sugar, just the bitter tonifying glory.

Whrereas the EdP option smells drier and has plenty of puffs and mini explosions of black pepper, the extrait version of Cacao Azteque is much more animalic and naughty (perhaps heavier on cacao and sandalwood).

Perris are rebalancing each composition for the extrait version. They shift the focus from the top notes to the base raising the amounts of base ingredients to achieve a richer, more opulent and luxurious effect. Pure indulgence in the theme.

Kajal IV spirits us to the wilderness of the African savannah, drawing a straight line between the dawn of humans to our ever-expanding world. The undulating golden panorama caressed by sultry heat is expressed by date-sweetened leather, studded with cardamom and brushed with rum. Vanilla and musk softens and beckons.
