This is a beautifully rounded fig on the mellow end of the spectrum. Bright bergamot, cardamom and galbanum open the fragrance with confidence, leading into a smooth fig accord layered with iris, cypress and soft floral nuances. The earthy, woody base glows with subtle musk.

Created by Master Perfumer Paul Parquet in 1882, Fougère Royale completely revolutionized the world of perfumes and established modern perfumery as it exists today. As well as creating an entirely new fragrance family, Parquet had succeeded in extracting isolated, synthetic molecules from natural, raw materials. In the dedicated pursuit to expand olfactory palettes with novel, new aromas, he’d derived coumarin from the tonka bean in a worldwide premiere. In its mission to authentically replicate the original, regal masterpiece from centuries past, the reengineered formula cultivates refined, prestigious raw materials of the highest quality and provenance. This masterfully revamped Fougère Royale retains its elegant, noble, refined pulse and its pleasant, pastoral beauty.

The perfectly-blended perfume is redolent of green and fragrant foliage with densely shaded woodlands. Sweet green grasses suggest the freshly-released essences of a crushed and dewy verdure, with an intense hint of newly-mown hay.

Fougère Royale’s nuanced scent composition opens with a vibrant, sparkling cocktail of bergamot, lavender and Mediterranean herbs. The heart follows, with floral-spicy Rondeletia accord, rare in most perfumes. Opening into rich geranium and warm spices. A floral intermezzo showcases rare rose essences and absolutes, spiked by pepper, cinnamon and carnation. Finally, a grand finale of earthy, ambery and woody harmonies, where moss notes join a sensual patchouli enriched by warm coumarinic undertones of tonka beans and clary sage absolute.

Bamboo captures the tranquil greenness of spring and summer in Zhejiang — a vision of misty hills and swaying bamboo after the morning fog has lifted. The breeze carries fresh green leaves through a soft haze of lily of the valley, jasmine and geranium. An enigmatic being, seen by locals in the late 1990s wandering the Swiss woodlands of Maules, dressed in a camouflage cape and a vintage gas mask. No one knew if they were woman or man, or even human, but this 6’3” creature was always observed picking and smelling flowers. When the cryptid disappeared forever after ten years of sightings, Le Matin reported that the mask and the cape were found in the forest, along with a note signed “Fantôme de Maules”. 

This olfactory tribute summons the forest that was the stranger’s haven: green leaves, galbanum, lavender, oakmoss and vetiver. A scent that’s part barbershop, part woodland escape. Who was this “ghost”, anyway? We will never know, because they don’t want us to. The modern world is alight with information and the shadows are shrinking. So here’s one for perfume lovers who don’t feel it necessary to explain themselves.

Brash and loud is not Audacity’s style; it is far more refined. It starts bright and light: lemongrass and passion fruit, opening up to peony and lily of the valley. Mysore sandalwood and a hint of vanilla bourbon.

Pergola opens with the most incredible rush of twisted green vegetation and instantly transports you back to the heyday of that decadent walkway. There is so much happening in here but the notes of galbanum, bergamot, and ivy are particularly spectacular. The floral heart is a swooning blend of narcissus, tuberose, and jasmine but the pergola’s passage of history is provided by an earthy pairing of patchouli and vetiver. You get a real impression of its heritage from touches of resins and moss and, whilst it’s described as a fougere, there is definitely a feeling of the most glorious aromatic chypre.
