Houbigant, founded in 1775, were one of the original perfume houses who invented many things we take for granted today and set the foundations for the aesthetics, styles and architectures of modern Western perfumery. It's the name you meet in any textbook or guide on perfume.

The history of the house has not been continuous and had its glorious moments (inventing the fougere style, serving Napoleon's court, and guess whose perfume betrayed Marie-Antoinette when she tried to disguise herself as a commoner to flee from the revolution). They supplied Queen Victoria as well as the Russian and numerous other courts.

However, there was also a period of silence for Houbigant at the end of 20th century.

The current owners of Houbigant take the heritage and history of the house very seriously and try to adapt the famous formulas from the 18th century to the 21st century's tastes and technologies while keeping the character and flair as close as possible to the originals.
