An homage to the role of spices in Western perfumery, history and culture. Naturally it’s a majestic aromatic flow of cinnamon and ginger, with numerous sparks of pepper and a rich incense background.

This perfume represents jungle temples and their incense practices and recipes which include many tropical spices. There are the straightforward geographical references (recipes, local materials and the very location of the perfume house) in Ma Nishtana. But then, there is the romantic, imagination side to it as well: the name ('my chant') and the overall effect the notes create: humid air taking in crisp, spicy incense in the shadows of a remote jungle temple.

An important note from the brand: "Every production batch of MAAI might smell quite differently from the previous one due to the large amount of natural organic materials used in its composition".

MAAI is a bold and sophisticated chypre. A perfume experiment, it is not a fragrance for the faint of heart but for those who have mourned the loss of vintage glamour with an animalic edge. Black-tie galas seem like a perfect occasion for this incredibly opulent, concentrated scent, but so are moments when you want to seduce with naked sensuality. Revenge is a leather chypre pfeaturing tobacco, a hot asphalt accord, and just a touch of exotic heady lilies melting in summer air. The character of the perfume is ambivalent: both bitter and dry and at the same time smooth ambery.

Important notice:

Anna Zworykina’s blends are olfactive smellscapes (but neither aromatherapy, nor ‘spray-and-go’ perfumes). Her blends are sensory experiences, closer to works of art created in the scented plane (rather than, say, visual or audio).

Certain essential oils and absolutes that are used in her 100% natural perfumes may potentially cause allergies in some people. Please spray Anna Zworykina’s blends on fabric (on sleeves, scarves, etc.). This said, Anna Zworykina has acquired a huge fan base over many years and people interacted with her blends for quite a while now. We are not aware of any reports of any skin reactions so far.

However, Anna advises that those who are prone to allergic reactions, pregnant and nursing women, as well as people with chronic illnesses to be extra careful. Do not spray these blends liberally as a cloud in the way you would spray a conventional perfume. Anna’s smellscapes need to be… carefully applied and experienced. Be mindful that some oils can also make your skin hyper-sensitive to UV.

In fleeting top notes Myrtle, fragile as the promises of love, encounters the preciousness of saffron, merging into an indomitable desire for eros.

The luxuriant notes of honey are exalted by the jasmine night breeze that pervades the home of the chaste lovers, among the frescoes, on a thalamus of rose petals.

The mysterious notes of incense and sweet vanilla blend with the oriental contamination of amber and labdanum that fades into the ancient aroma of agar wood, sealing the essence of Castiamanti, expression of rich Pompeii.

An emphasis on amber and leather in this extrait version of the original EdP renders this Wolf darker and more dangerous. The higher perfume oil content means that the shadings of vetiver, pine and oakmoss are richer and deeper. The dark sparkle of cardamom holds its ground, providing a tantalising chiaroscuro to this sumptuous composition.

The perfume is named after a heroine from Ramayana, the ancient Hindu epic. She was a stunningly beautiful, devoted and pious wife of a king and in her time had to manage her husbands temper, the wrath of the gods and participate in politics and the kingdom's affairs in general while negotiating with an army of Hanuman's celestial monkeys.

So the perfume formula is a vintage femme fatale accessory with intoxicating jungle flowers, an accord of sweet opium and a bit of film noir tobacco smoke.

This is a rich elegant animalic amber perfume. It features a genuine vintage recipe: the Chevrone base (a clever mix of labdanum, civet and ambréïne). The name L’Hombre Fauve can be interpreted as “a wildcat in the shadows”, just to warn you of the effect of the formula and its silent ambery prowl.
